BLOG #73. The Russian Federation’s Intellectual Property Agency Issued One More (Utility Model) Patent For An IEMs’ Technology by Mikhail Kucherenko

On September the 19th, 2019 The Russian Intellectual Property Agency issued one more (Utility Model) patent by Mikhail Kucherenko called “In-The-Ear-Canal Earphone”:

The main idea behind this Utility Model patent is that, in our ear monitors’ design, its “naked” “key drivers” without “sound tubes”, which are located at the very front of them, ahead of all the rest of the drivers, radiate the sound completely outside of the IEMs’ external bodies, and directly into the minimum “operational volume” in front of the tympanic membrane. Even more so, there are no IEMs’ additional design elements or obstacles of any kind in front of the “key drivers” which would be located in between them and the tympanic membrane.

Therefore, we can use here a following analogy.

Acoustic transducers in the known IEMs radiate sound in the ”operational volume” in front of the tympanic membrane via some additional obstacles on the way of the acoustic signal, let’s say, via some additional cavities (e.g., of “sound tubes”), that is, as if the sound source is located in an adjacent – towards the tympanic membrane’s location - “room”.

Then in our ear monitors, the front positioned “key drivers” radiate their sound directly and without any hindrance in front of tympanic membrane, that is, as if located, not outside, but inside the same “room” where the tympanic membrane is.

Accordingly, it’s not too hard to come up with a mental picture of possible sound quality improvements that an application of the technology described in the given Utility Model patent can provide.

The patent has entered its PCT phase, which means that we are working now on issuing this Utility Model patent in other world territories.

Our StereoPravda Spearphone-series' ear monitors are all designed in full accordance with the design principles described in this Utility Model patent.
